A Salon Discussion For And By Faculty At Dartmouth College

Deep Questions is a grassroots initiative intended to stimulate intellectual exchange in the Dartmouth community. Our inspiration is a desire for a setting in which we can recommit to the ethos of a liberal arts education and the type of critical thinking for which Dartmouth is well known. We believe this to be of crucial importance in today's increasingly complex and both connected and fractured world. We see our initiative as something of a hybrid between a lecture series and salon (think Le Chat Noir), led by a speaker (or small group of speakers or performers) whose remarks (25 or so minutes worth) for an audience of faculty colleagues will aim to outline the horizons of scholarly and creative endeavor, take on a broad topic, and open our eyes to where the "open water" is in an area. Speakers and audience members should be prepared for lively exchange during and after presentations.
